The staff at Prestige Car Audio and Marine know that there is a lot more to making a subwoofer system sound amazing than just putting a speaker in a box. The design of custom speaker enclosures depend on the vehicle, the subwoofer and the customer’s intentions for the system. We love to obsess over subwoofer enclosure design and fabrication. Let’s look at a few ways our enclosures are the best in the Metairie and New Orleans, Louisiana, area.
Quality Tools
We have invested in a cabinet-grade table saw. This saw allows us to cut large sheets of wood with amazing precision. Accurate cuts ensure there are no gaps at the corners for maximum joint strength and an airtight seal. We also use a router with a circle-cutting jig to cut perfect mounting holes for subwoofers and ports.
Construction
There are many different styles of subwoofer enclosures. The simplest and most predictable to design and construct are sealed (also called Acoustic Suspension) and vented or ported (also known as a Bass Reflex) enclosures. Different enclosure styles have different performance characteristics and size requirements. Each subwoofer enclosure we construct is modeled using computer simulation software to ensure that frequency response and power handling will meet the customer’s goals for the system. We use this same software to calculate vent dimensions for accurate tuning in ported designs. We include extensive bracing in each enclosure we construct to ensure that the walls of the enclosure will not flex and affect the sonic performance of the system.
Materials
We use premium construction materials in each enclosure we build. We use birch plywood, fiberglass and premium MDF in automotive applications to combine strength and the ability to create custom shapes. In marine applications, we make extensive use of Starboard for its water-resistant properties.
Design
We design our enclosures to flow with the style of the vehicle in which it is being installed. We can match materials like carpet and vinyl to integrate further into the interior cosmetics of a vehicle. For a more custom look, we can create grilles with aluminum trim rings and shaped mesh inserts. For those with a flair for the dramatic, multicolor LED illumination and acrylic plastic windows and accents can help to show off the subwoofer system even more.
