The owner of this cool Sea Pro boat recently contacted the team at Prestige Car Audio and Marine to discuss upgrading the audio system. He wanted the stereo to not only play a lot louder but sound better. After inspecting the boat and talking to the customer about how he listens to his music, we devised a plan to create an upgrade that would look and sound amazing!
Marine Radio and Communications Upgrade

The console was upgraded with new electronics and the JL Audio radio.
We started the project with the installation of a new radio in the helm of the boat. The client chose a JL Audio MediaMaster MM100s-BE digital media receiver because it includes Bluetooth audio streaming and is easy to use.
The owner also had us install a SIMRAD NSS12 evo3 navigation system. The NSS12 features a 12-inch touchscreen display and uses a high-speed GPS/GLONASS receiver to provide incredibly accurate positioning information. We also installed a SIMRAD RS35 VHF and AIS radio so the owner can communicate safely while out on the water.
JL Audio Marine Speaker and Subwoofer Upgrades
The next order of business was to install a pair of JL Audio marine-grade amplifiers and eight of the new M6-Series marine speakers. We mounted an eight-channel M800/8v2 and a four-channel M400/4 amp inside the center console. The amplifiers are wired to the boat battery using JL Audio marine-grade wiring to ensure that the system will remain reliable.
We replaced the factory speakers in the overhead fiberglass T-Top with two sets of M6-650X-S-GwGw-i 6.5-inch coaxial speakers with integrated LED illumination. To add improved bass response to the system and ensure that it can play loudly enough while the big Mercury outboard is at full song, we added two pair of matching M6-880X-GwGw-I 8.8-inch coaxial speakers to the outer walls of the boat cockpit. These massive speakers offer double the excursion capability of the 6.5-inch speakers in the roof and will play effortlessly down to below 40Hz to make sure the client’s music is felt as well as being heard.
We also added several Heise LED light pods to the top to make it easier to see once the sun starts to set.
Sea Pro Stereo System Upgrade Project
After the equipment was installed and all the amplifiers were configured and tested, it was time for the client to return to Prestige Car Audio and Marine near New Orleans to see and hear the boat’s new stereo for the first time. He was blown away with the sound. It was detailed and clear with realistic bass extension that didn’t come across as boomy or obnoxious. To say that that client was thrilled would be an understatement. If your boat could use an audio system upgrade, drop by our store or send our team an e-mail using the contact form on our website.
