A client from New Orleans came to Prestige Car Audio & Marine looking for a custom-installed radar detector. She owned a 2014 Porsche Cayman S. We have to admit, we love Porsches. We love their style, their engineering and, of course, their incredible performance. And if you are going to drive one the way it was meant to be driven, then coming to see us might be a good idea.
Premium Radar/Laser Protection From Prestige
Now, we do things a little differently when it comes to radar detectors. Our goal is to give our clients all of the performance they paid for, so we design and build every system around the vehicle. We don’t take a cookie-cutter approach to the installation, as it will drastically affect the performance of the system.
Integrated Display In Rear View Mirror
The display of the Escort system was mounted behind the glass of the rear view mirror for safer viewing.
In this vehicle, the customer wanted a completely stock look, so we went to great lengths to integrate the display and controller into the vehicle. If you look closely at the picture of the rear view mirror, you will see the display for the Escort 9500ci is embedded into it. We have perfected the art of disassembling the mirror and custom-modifying it, so the display looks like Porsche put it there. If the system is turned off, the display completely disappears. Now, when the detector picks up radar, she will see the display out of the corner of her eye very quickly, giving her more time to respond. And the more time you have to respond, the lower the risk of getting a ticket.
OEM Looking Control Mounting
When it came time to mount the controller for the system, Prestige Car Audio & Marine rebuilt the back of the center console so we could flush the controls. One major problem of flushing the controls is you no longer have access to the power button, because it is built into the top of the unit. That isn’t a problem for our highly skilled technicians – we disassemble the controller and relocate the power button. If you look closely at the picture, you will notice a small button, centered under the controls. That is now the master on/off switch for the system. For an even cleaner look, we integrated the Porsche logo underneath the controller.
Stealth Radar Sensor Location
With the interior finished, where the rubber meets the road from a performance perspective is the mounting and placement of the sensors. We installed the radar sensor strategically in the front of the vehicle, completely hidden from view. As long as the radar sensor is not behind metal, the performance is not affected.
Precision Aiming For Laser Shifters
The placement and alignment of the front laser shifters is critical. The Prestige Technicians do the job right.
Where it gets tricky is in placing the laser shifters. The Escort takes protection to the next level in that it goes beyond sensing laser to helping protect you from it. When the laser receivers sense they are being shot at, they fire back beams of light, which prevents the laser gun operator from getting a reading from you. Now you have time to slow down and avoid a ticket. But if the laser shifters are not positioned perfectly, all of your hard-earned money is wasted. Our technicians spend as much time as needed to place the shifters in their optimum position while not making them look obtrusive.
Additional Protection With Rear Laser Shifters
The rear laser shifters are mounted above the license plate for maximum effectiveness.
While your vehicle will be shot by laser in the front most of the time, for the ultimate in protection, we offer rear laser shifters as well. Our client opted to have them installed, and we took the same painstaking approach as we do on the front shifters.
