How the JL Audio Fix-82 Works
In many new vehicles, it is simply not possible to replace the factory head unit. In these vehicles, we need to extract an audio signal to send to a new amplifier or processor. The issue is, in many cases, the signal coming from the radio or amplifier is configured with equalization, crossovers and signal delay for the factory speakers and their locations. If we used this signal, your new speakers could sound worse than the original speakers.
The FiX-82 processor will accept four pairs of inputs so we can capture subwoofer, midbass, midrange and tweeter signals to ensure the entire audio range is covered. Once we connect the speaker wires, we activate the processor. Its calibration process neutralizes the factory tuning, then combines the signals to provide a perfect starting point so we can build a new system.
Unique Features
The folks at JL Audio did their homework when designing the FiX processors. They have included a few unique features to make installing and using the system easier. A fiber-optic Toslink output is provided to let us connect to a new processor or amplifier without the need to switch the signal to analog. The result is better sound quality and less potential for noise.
JL has also included a Bluetooth HandsFree mode that can be activated when a call comes in. This mode disables the time correction functions in the FiX processor to ensure Bluetooth noise cancellation works properly.
