A customer from Metairie, Louisiana, brought his 2015 Polaris Slingshot to Prestige Car Audio and Marine for a few upgrades. He wanted an audio system that sounded as cool as the Slingshot looks, and he wanted to add some LED accent lighting to the vehicle. We worked through several options for the audio system with the client. With our proposal accepted, we booked an appointment to start the transformation.
Bright Lights
We started by disassembling much of the Slingshot. We removed the seats, fairings, side panels and the floor to allow us to run wiring for the extensive LED lighting we were going to install. This level of deconstruction was the only way to ensure all the wiring would be properly concealed. We installed water-resistant lighting under the vehicle, in the fenders, above the front grille, in the foot wells and beside each of the seats. To say that this three-wheeled roadster looks awesome would be a gross understatement.
Speakers
The client wanted to make sure he could hear his music with authority. We mounted two pairs of JL Audio MX650-CCX-SG-TLD-B coaxial speakers in fiberglass enclosures. The forward speakers are in line with the driver’s knees, while the rear ones are beside his hips. The fiberglass enclosures bolt into factory locations, so no cutting was required.
Subwoofer
The client wanted some bass, so he chose a JL Audio 10TW3D4 subwoofer for the vehicle. We mounted it in a fiberglass enclosure that bolts into the storage compartment behind the driver’s seat. The enclosure includes a protective grille and, again, uses factory mounting locations.
Power
We installed a pair of JL Audio marine amplifiers under the passenger seat. An MHX280/4 provides 50 watts per channel to the 6.5-inch coaxial speakers. The other amplifier is an MHX300/1. It powers the subwoofer with up to 300 watts – a perfect match for that 10-inch sub.
Radio
We mounted a Clarion CMS5 digital media receiver in the dash of the Slingshot. The CMS5 is a marine-rated product, so the control panel can get rained on, and the screen is designed to be clearly visible in bright sunlight. It has a backup camera input that we used with a camera that we mounted on the rear of the vehicle. As soon as the vehicle is put into reverse, the camera image appears. The radio also has Bluetooth and iPod provisions, so the client can listen to whatever he wants to hear.
Tuning
We wrapped up the installation with a thorough tuning of the system. We ensured that the crossover and sensitivity settings on both amplifiers were adjusted to maximize the system’s performance, as well as its reliability. We made sure there were no buzzes or rattles that would interfere with the owner’s enjoyment of his music.
The Slingshot Audio And Lighting Blew The Client Away!
When the client returned to Prestige Car Audio and Marine, he immediately wanted to see what the LED lighting looked like. You couldn’t have wiped the smile off his face with a stick. He had a listen to the audio system and was blown away at how clear it was, even at high volume levels.

Genius idea installing the JL Audio marine amplifiers. I know this post was created a few months ago, how are those amplifiers performing now?
