A client came to Prestige Car Audio and Marine for some help with a unique project. The client owns a Worksman Mover tricycle that he and his wife use to participate in NOLA Social Rides. He wanted to make their already unique bike stand out a little. We were honored to help!
We developed a proposal to add high-efficiency LED lighting to the trike. The client loved the plan, so we booked an appointment and set to work.
Light It Up!
Plenty of RGB LED lighting gives this trike a trick look at night.
We installed 16 feet of RGB LED strips along the inside of the front and rear fenders and under the customized cargo tray. The light strips have a red, green and blue compact LED in each light location and include a dedicated controller that works via a Wi-Fi connection to a smartphone. The client or his wife can choose the color of the lights, or have them cycle through a rainbow of colors.
Whip It Up!
We mounted a pair of four-foot tall Blackjack Safety whips from Outlaw Whips to the rear of the cargo tray. The whips have similar LED strips wrapped around the center shaft in a spiral pattern that extends from the base to the very tip. The RGB lighting in the whips is connected to the same controller as the lights under the fenders and the cargo tray.
Heads Up!
Much like the famed Tucker, this trike has a headlight that points where it is going.
We also installed a compact LED light bar from Oracle next. The light bar is mounted to the handlebars so it illuminates where the trike is pointed. Controls for the headlight and the other LED lights are provided by a custom switch panel that is accessible by the owner’s wife.
Power Up!
We powered the system with a small battery that is housed in a water-resistant enclosure. We fabricated the enclosure from PVC and mounted it under the rear cargo tray. The RGB controller is in the same housing to ensure maximum protection. We included a CTEK battery charger to replenish the battery pack and ensure it’s ready for each week’s ride.
Clients In Awe Of Trike Lighting
When the client and his wife returned to Prestige Car Audio and Marine in Metairie, Louisiana, to pick up their trike, they were in awe. As with all of our projects, the wiring was neat and tidy. We made every effort to conceal as much of it as possible while ensuring the trike would remain functionally perfect and reliable. The new LED accent lighting was amazingly bright, ensuring the couple would easily stand out in the crowd of bicycle enthusiasts.
