A client from Metairie, LA, brought his 2016 Jeep Wrangler to Prestige Car Audio and Marine for an entertainment system upgrade. We talked to the client about what he liked about the Jeep audio system, and it became clear that there wasn’t much. After listening to a few different speakers and demonstrating a head unit solution, we had a plan together. The client approved our quote, so we scheduled a date for the installation to begin on this Jeep Wrangler audio system upgrade.
Premium Head Unit Replacement

The client was not overly impressed with the factory source unit. The Alpine Restyle is the premiere infotainment solution for Jeep Wranglers. After removing the factory source unit, we began installation of the Alpine X109-WRA Restyle system. The X109-WRA includes a multimedia receiver with a massive 9-inch screen. Alpine includes a dash trim piece with volume, track selection, source and navigation buttons. The large buttons make it easy to use the source unit.

Speaker Upgrade and Subwoofer
The masters at JL Audio were able to fit an incredible amount of bass in a small space on the floor of the Jeep.
The client wanted better sound, so we installed a set of Focal Flax PS165FX 6.5-inch components in the front of the truck. We used SoundSkins sound-deadening material around the speakers to improve their performance. In the rear overhead speaker location, we installed a set of Focal PC165F coaxial speakers. Again, we used SoundSkins damping material.
For a subwoofer, we ordered a JL Audio SB-J-JK2DR/10W1v3/DG Stealthbox. The enclosure is home to a single JL Audio 10W1v3 subwoofer. The enclosure sits on the floor of the Jeep and only raises the storage area by 5 inches. We used more SoundSkins damping material under the subwoofer enclosure.
Amplifier Power Solution
The new radio, speakers, amplifier and subwoofer transformed this Jeep into a rolling concert hall.
To power the system, we used a JL Audio XD700/5v2 five-channel amplifier. The XD700/5v2 produces up to 75 watts per channel to the four front speakers and up to 300 watts for the subwoofer. The amplifier includes built-in crossovers to maximize the performance of the speakers and subwoofer. We used our oscilloscope to set the gains on the amplifier and ensure maximum performance and reliability.
Client Love His Wrangler Audio Upgrades
Once complete, the client returned to see his Wrangler audio project. He hopped in for a listen and was thrilled with how detailed and clear it sounded. The subwoofer provided a dramatic improvement over the factory system.
