A client from Metairie contacted Prestige Car Audio and Marine about upgrading his 2017 Ford Raptor lighting system. We had a look at the truck and talked about how much additional light he wanted and how he would be using the truck. After browsing through a few product catalogs, we came up with a plan to give him the after-dark performance he wanted.
Ford Raptor Fog Pocket Kit
Baja Designs offers a lighting upgrade solution that is designed specifically for the 2017 Ford Raptor. Its Fog Pocket kit includes a pair of mounting brackets and three sets of lights that fit perfectly into the front bumper. The system includes a set of Squadron Racer Edition spotlights that produce 4,300 lumens each to ensure the client can see far down the road. A set of Squadron Pro lights in a Driving pattern provides increased lighting in a pattern similar to the factory headlights, but with a jaw-dropping 4,900 lumens of output each. Finally, a pair of compact S2 Pro lights provides illumination to either side of the truck, each with 2,450 lumens of output.
Front Grille Light Upgrade
Next, we mounted a Baja Designs 30-inch S8 light kit in the front grille. This kit includes brackets designed specifically for the 2017 Raptor and does not require any drilling or cutting to complete the installation. The 30-inch S8 light bar features a Driving/Combo light pattern to provide a balance of long-distance illumination and good foreground lighting.
Rear Bumper Backup Lights
The icing on the cake was a S2 Pro reverse light kit. This kit is also designed specifically for the 2017 Ford Raptor and includes mounting brackets and wire harnesses. The wiring included with the kit is designed to connect to the factory reverse light circuit. The rear lights feature a wide flood-style beam pattern to make sure everything behind the truck is illuminated properly.
All Baja Designs lights use high-quality Cree LEDs, extremely durable polycarbonate lenses and Mil-Spec hard anodized aircraft-grade aluminum housings. The lights carry an IP69K waterproof rating and an impressive IK10 impact rating. The IK10 rating means that the lights have survived a 20-joule impact from a steel hammer. What does that mean? The 20 joules is the energy produced by an 11-pound steel ball dropped from a height of 16 inches.
Ford Raptor Lighting Installation
While it would seem that installing these application-specific lighting kits is easy, ensuring that all the wiring is routed securely and safely is an important part of the task. Our team takes the time to ensure that each cable is run to avoid damage or interference with factory mechanical and electrical systems. All electrical connections are mechanically secure and properly protected to ensure that the new lights function reliably for years. Thankfully, LED lights typically last for around 50,000 hours. That’s more than five and a half years of constant use! Of course, we made sure to aim all the lights carefully once installed to ensure maximum performance.
