A client from Metairie, Louisiana, came to Prestige Car Audio & Marine in New Orleans for a Ferrari laser and radar detection system for his 2015 California model. He knew from the beginning that he was going to drive the vehicle the way the engineers designed it (that is, fast!), so he needed a custom-installed laser and radar detector for it. Since this client knew he had a special vehicle, he couldn’t trust it to just any shop.
In typical Prestige fashion, we got together with the client and went over goals for the upgrade. Our team scoured the vehicle, looking for the best places to put the sensors and controllers to maximize performance while keeping all of the integrity of the vehicle intact.
Escort System For Ultimate Protection
We knew from the beginning that this client needed something great, so we suggested the Escort 9500ci system with the optional rear laser shifters. This package gives the client a front-mounted radar receiver, two front-mounted laser radar shifters and two rear-mounted laser radar shifters. In the interior of the vehicle, the client will get a controller, display and speaker for audible alerts of a threat.
Vehicle Protection Is Paramount At Prestige
Our goal was to keep our work at or above the Ferrari build standards.
When it came time to start the installation, the first thing we did was mask off any area of the vehicle where we would be working, to eliminate any possibility of scratches to the finish. This includes the interior as well as the exterior. The vehicle spent the whole time it was with us inside our install bay to eliminate any possibility of damage from sitting outside. We also used a battery maintainer to keep the electrical system at full capacity while the vehicle was in our care.
We do all of these things for any vehicle we work on, not just a Ferrari. No matter what you drive, we treat it with tender loving care, so you will get it back in the exact same condition as we received it.
Front Protection With Radar Receiver And Dual Laser Shifters
The front-mounted radar receiver and dual laser shifters help increase the safety of this beautiful car.
In the front of the vehicle, we securely mounted the radar receiver behind the factory grille, giving it a complete stealth look. We mounted the two laser shifters securely on custom brackets inside the mouth of the bumper, in clear view of the road ahead. Since laser is a line-of-sight–style radar, the sensors can’t have their visibility of the road ahead blocked in any way, or their performance can be severely hampered.
Rear Protection With Dual Laser Shifters
In the rear of the vehicle, we added two more laser shifters. We made a custom mount for them that used that factory license plate bolts, eliminating the need to drill into the body. Just like we did on the front of the vehicle, we aimed the rear shifters precisely at the road behind, so they could pick up and avert a laser threat from there.
Center Console Mounted Controller
When it came time to do the work on the interior, the client wanted a completely stealth look with nothing showing. We hid the display inside the glovebox, but clearly visible should the client ever need to see it. The controller is the part that the driver will interact with, so we made a custom mount for it and flushed it at the front of the center console. If the lid is closed, the controller is completely hidden from view. If you open up the console, the controller is very convenient to operate. We covered the mount in a flocking material that perfectly matched the interior of the center console, giving it a factory-finished look.
Hidden Speaker
We mounted the speaker securely and hid it in the interior compartment, allowing the driver to hear any alerts without ever seeing it.
Installation Best Practices
We covered all of the wiring for the custom-installed laser and radar detector in tech flex, the same loom used by Ferrari. We soldered every connection and used heat-shrinking for maximum reliability.
Final Check-Out For Quality Control
Just as the client wanted, our work was completely invisible to the eye.
We thoroughly checked and tested the system to ensure maximum performance before delivering the vehicle to the client.
When the client came to pick up his vehicle, he was blown away by the attention to detail in our installation, because it looked like a Ferrari factory-installed option.
