A client from here in Metairie recently contacted Prestige Car Audio and Marine to inquire about upgrading his 2019 Ford Raptor with a new stereo and a variety of performance, convenience and styling upgrades. The client’s wish list was quite extensive. As such, our team spent some extra time with the client to ensure that every aspect of the project was as he wished. Check out how we personalized this amazing truck for the client.
Raptor Stereo System Upgrades
The project started with a few upgrades to the factory stereo. As is common with pretty much all sound systems, the truck lacked the ability to generate great bass. We installed a custom MTI Acoustics under-seat subwoofer. The enclosure features a single JL Audio 10TW3 subwoofer on the passenger side and has a storage compartment on the driver side. The Stage 2 enclosure fits perfectly under the rear seat, and the front panel includes a black Raptor logo for some added flair. The subwoofer is powered by a JL Audio JX500/1 amplifier, enabling the system to sound good and play loudly when the client cranks the volume.
We integrated the new amplifier into the factory radio after measuring the frequency response of the system. We wanted to make sure the signal we fed to the amplifier had all the bass information the client would expect from his upgrade.
Truck Cosmetic Upgrades
The client wanted to change the look of the truck. We started by wrapping the vehicle with 3M 1080 Series satin black vinyl. 3M 1080 is a high-quality, automotive-grade cast vinyl that includes UV protection to keep the truck looking great for years. We applied XPEL Stealth Series satin-finish paint protection film over any areas that would be prone to rock chips or damage while driving to help keep the truck looking like new.
As always, the devil is in the details. We removed several suspension components as well as the brake calipers so they could be painted to match the satin finish on the truck. Once all the newly painted components were installed, we added ceramic undercoating to the truck to help make it easier to keep it looking pristine.
KMC Wheels Offer an Aggressive Look
The client wanted to upgrade the wheel and tire package to further personalize the vehicle. He chose a set of KMC KM704 District Truck wheels. We set the wheels for a custom powder coating so they’d match the rest of the vehicle. The wheels are wrapped in Nitto Ridge Grappler 35-inch-tall tires to complete the aggressive appearance of the project.
Premium Powered Bed Cover
The client wanted a premium bed cover to protect his belongings. He chose the Retrax PowertraxPro MX electric retractable cover. The system includes a handheld key fob that lets the client open or close the cover remotely with the touch of a button. The cover features heavy-duty aluminum slat construction and a low-profile design that is practically invisible from the side.
Amp Research PowerSteps
Another cool accessory the client asked for was a set of Amp Research PowerSteps. These motorized side steps mount to the cab of the truck and sit up close to the rocker panels when not in use. As soon as any of the doors open, the steps extend down automatically to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.
As with the motorized truck bed cover, our expert mobile electronics technicians made short work of integrating the power and control wiring for the steps into the vehicle. We never use t-taps that can damage wiring. Our electrical connections are soldered to maximum electrical conductivity, then protected with high-quality vinyl and automotive-grade cloth protective tapes to ensure maximum reliability.
