The team at Prestige Car Audio and Marine was recently asked to install a custom-cut DEKit flooring system in this 2016 Chaparral Sunesta 224 bowrider boat. The client wanted a flooring surface that was more comfortable when walking on bare feet and that would reduce the chances of slipping when the interior of the boat was wet. We suggested the DEKit flooring system and with the owner’s approval, set to work upgrading this cool ski boat.
What Is DEKit Flooring?
DEKit flooring for boats is an application-specific non-skid flooring made from crosslinked PE/EVA foam. The flooring is available in a variety of colors and color combinations to accent or match the style of each project.
On this Chaparral, we started the project by using our 3D scanning tool to create a model of the boat floor, the swim platform and the bow of the boat near the anchor locker. Once the modeling was complete, we sent that information to DEKit, along with the client’s color choice, so that they could begin the design process. The client chose an Anchor Grey top layer with a Jet Black base. As you can see from the photos, DEKit can add custom graphics and logos to personalize and enhance the project.
How DEKit Flooring Is Installed
After the team at DEKit processes the three-dimensional digitization and adds the chosen patterns and trim, they cut out each panel on their in-house CNC router system. They attach high-strength 3M bonding tape to the back of each panel before packaging the whole system and sending it back to us for installation.
When we knew the flooring was en route, we scheduled an appointment with the boat owner for the installation. The installation requires a thorough cleaning of the boat interior to remove any dust and debris. Next, we wipe down each flooring area with a wax and grease remover to ensure the adhesive will hold the flooring panel securely. Finally, after making sure all the edges are aligned, we remove the backing from the adhesive and put each panel in place. We apply pressure to each panel to make sure it will be completely secure and safe for passengers.
