A client from here in Metairie, LA, brought in his 2007 Jeep Wrangler to us for an audio system upgrade. He wanted the system to be clearer and louder, with good, solid bass response. We looked over the vehicle with him and came up with a product and installation proposal. After a few small changes to the plan, we booked an appointment to do the work.
Digital Media Source Unit by Alpine
We started by modifying the dash to make room for an Alpine X108U receiver. The X108 features an 8-inch screen that required us to open up the factory radio trim panel to make room. We integrated the external control capabilities of the X108U with the winch on the front of the truck and LED lights. Audio signals from the source unit feed a pair of compact RC-Series Gladen amplifiers in the rear of the truck.
Great Low-end Reproduction by JL Audio and Gladen
A Gladen RC70c4 amplifier provides up to 68 watts of power to the four new speakers we installed. A Gladen R1200c1 amplifier can send up to 1,200 watts to a pair of JL Audio 12TW3 subwoofer that fire rearward into the tailgate of the truck. We mounted the optional remote subwoofer level control in the front of the truck to give the owner an easy way to adjust how much bass the system would produce.
Focal Speaker Upgrade for More Detail
To give the client’s music more detail, we installed a set of Focal PS165FX 6.5-inch components in the front of the truck. The tweeters fit nicely into the stock tweeter pods on top of the dash. We installed the midrange drivers in the factory door speaker locations. The soundbar on the roof behind the front seats is now home to a set of Focal PC165 coaxial speakers.
Proper System Tuning for Maximum Performance from Jeep Wrangler Audio System
Any time we install an amplifier in a vehicle, we take care to ensure that we set the sensitivity adjustments so the music can get good and loud, without much distortion. When the system involves subwoofers, additional tuning ensures we set the crossovers on the amplifiers properly and that the output of each speaker is summing acoustically. It takes a little extra time to set up a multi-channel system, but that time and effort is worth it as soon as the customer hears the system.
When the client returned to pick up his Jeep, he was anxious to have a listen to the new system. He hopped in and cued up a few of his favorite tracks. We knew from the smile on his face that we had succeeded in meeting his goals.
